Antman Ant – Resonate Album Review: A Spacey Dance Party

When a song makes you want to dance, the feeling is undeniable. The groove hits your shoulders, hips and shoots down to your feet to get you up out of your seat to move to the music. Antman Ant’s latest release, “Resonate,” is full of tracks with the power to get you out of your seat and get you moving to the beat. While the first track, “Asleep 100 Years,” is just a tad on the slower side, it’s not one you want to miss.

“Asleep 100 Years” begins with a slow piano that creates a mood of melancholy and intrigue, which gets a spacey splash thanks to the wavy synths that follow. The synths create a distorted flow that persists underneath the piano until about the halfway point, where the keys take charge of the track once again. During the small solo, the high notes create a contemplative mood of curiosity that pierces through the somber mood established beforehand, giving the track a bit of an uplifting side. The track is a great intro to the album and piques the listeners’ curiosity with its entrancing sounds.

“Progressive Beats” follows it and immediately kicks the album into its next phase. The spacey synths continue into this track, with their starry sounds carrying you into the track from the top. When the synths hit the first rising note, the bass drum comes in to give the track its pulse that uses its power to carry you through the track as you lose yourself in the music. Once it gets going, “Progressive Beats” never stops moving and kicks into overdrive after the 2:30 mark.  You go from floating in the spacey aesthetic of the track to blasting off into its galaxy, making the track feel incredibly exciting even on a casual listen.

The pulse of the track “You Know” instantly pulls you in with dreamy synths bringing a mood of wonder to the track. The spacey blips emphasizes this aesthetic before the bass hits the track and gives a funky kick to it. “You Know” is a track that is easy to get lost in from the very top, with an alluring beat that will pull you up from your seat. The longer you resist, the harder it is when the beat moves right your hips and the synths move the groove up to your shoulders. The spirit of classic dance beats lives on in “You Know” and it proves to be just as powerful as ever at getting the listener to dance.

The striking intro of soft piano keys to a rapid, echoing violin lets the titular track “Resonate” grab your attention immediately. It sets up an air of mystery that pulls you deeper as the synths grow in the background, adding tension to the aesthetic of the track. Around the 1 minute mark, a faint upbeat clapping can be heard underneath the instrumentals and another synth lifts it up rapidly until the track kicks into overdrive about 20 seconds later. This launches the track into full-blown dance party mode as it subtly re-introduces the mysterious and dramatic instrumentals from the intro. When the two meet, they dance together with a swinging groove that brings the track into a new dimension, making “Resonate” one of the most memorable on the album.

“Little Blue Planet” has soft, dreamy synths that float you into the track with a grace that slips past the white noise and other wavy synths. When the bass drums kick in, it gets easy to lose yourself in the pulse they bring to the track as the synths lift off into space. “Little Blue Planet” has an uplifting, ethereal quality that defines the personality ambient style track with a dash of spacey curiosity when the track heads to space on its synths. These qualities come together to make “Little Blue Planet” a stand-out, chill track on an album full of powerful tracks that get you up out of your seat.

“Resonate” is an album full of tracks that will lift you up out of your seat and get you moving. From the very beginning with “Progressive Beats” to the titular track “Resonate,” this release has a ton of tracks that just let the listener get lost in the music and dance. Others, such as “Little Blue Planet,” are more contemplative tracks that use the spacey synths to create a more relaxed aesthetic to balance out the powerful personalities of the others. This makes “Resonate” a very fun and spacey journey whose sci-fi inspired sounds feel fun and uplifting.
