Night Hymns – Blue Bottle Single Review: A Sunny, Swingin’ Single

When you travel far from your home, it can stir many emotions within you. Meeting new people, seeing new places and experiencing new things are all stories of their own and will stay with you long after you’ve left them behind. Night Hymns’ latest single release, “Blue Bottle,” manages to capture this feeling perfectly through groovy guitars, jammin’ drums and a sunny aesthetic that isn’t afraid to embrace all of the feelings that come with a journey.

The drums slam with authority and instantly establish a head-bobbing pulse to the track. The guitar that revs up is the perfect way to set the vocals up, which instantly mellows out the track as the guitars air out. The smooth, sunny vocals instantly leave a groovy impression that flips the atmosphere into fun jam. The free-wheeling guitar jams with riffs that are memorable and easy to get lost in while the drums never stop creating the perfect foundation for the airy guitars are sunny vocals to dance together. This synergy gives the track an excellent swing, making it hard to not get up and dance the longer you listen. This is to say nothing of the subtle but busy bassline, that subtly grooves beneath the instrumentals while adding the perfect splash of personality. Lyrically, the track is all about the travels of Night Hymns frontman Wei and its ups and downs. Lines such as “you can send the roof on up into the sky when you dance to the swinging of a butterfly, when you walk to the rhythm of your lullaby then I wanna walk in time with you,” and “fly to the west, fly the east, try as I might, try to get my feast” join an incredibly memorable chorus that is hard not to sing along to by the last time you hear it. It also perfectly illustrates the rollercoaster of emotions that can come with the act of chasing dreams.

“Blue Bottle” is a track that oozes style. From the groovy instrumentals, to the smooth and poppy vocals, the track is one that instantly grabs your attention and doesn’t let you go until it’s over. The ride that “Blue Bottle” takes you on is thoughtful, inspired and incredibly fun with tons of surprises that are sure to leave a smile on the face of any indie rock fan who picks up on them. While this one is perfect for the indie rock playlist, anyone looking for something new should give “Blue Bottle” a listen.
