The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) seeks submissions for the festival’s new Dance Division. The deadline for submissions is February 21, 2011. The MITF, currently in its twelfth season, will run from July 11 – 31, 2011.
Applications for the Dance Division of the MITF must be postmarked by February 21, 2011, and must include a $30 application fee. Applications are available online at www.midtownfestival.org. Selected participants will be notified in April 2010. The company must then submit a participation fee of $650 and may also opt to receive a percentage of the box office. Artistic director Alessandro Pellicani heads the Dance Division. Alessandro is best known for his work on Italian national television R.A.I. as a principal dancer and Studio 54 The Musical as assistant choreographer.
Mr. Chatterton created the MITF in 2000, a Midtown alternative to other theatre festivals, as a way to present the finest off-off Broadway talent in convenience, comfort, and safety. In 2008, the Festival added two 99-seat theatres and inaugurated the Commercial Division for upwardly mobile shows with commercial ambitions. The MITF’s artistic emphasis is on the script itself and therefore the Festival requests minimal production values.
The 2011 Festival will take place at the June Havoc Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor; the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor; the TBG Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 3rd floor; the Main Stage Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor; and the Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor.
