TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Storyline Shudder

“I hate everybody, including myself,” Tazz, this week on Impact Wrestling.

The way the show has been as of late, TNA Creative has a bit of love/hate going on as well.

Although the wrestling action was solid and the crowd was pumped, this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling failed to deliver the storyline goods. At this point, The Aces and Eights angle is slowly dwindling and there’s little to be excited about. Everything is a jumbled mess.

Especially when it comes to the World Heavyweight Title. Bully Ray may not have earned his title shot against Jeff Hardy the conventional way, but he’s still got it. Easily one of TNA’s most dynamic stars he’s come a long way over the past year. Too bad he didn’t compete in the #1 contender’s tournament and just “married” the Hulk Hogan’s daughter.

That’s TNA writing for you.

Matches:

TNA Tag Team Champions Austin Aries and Robert Roode and Christopher Daniels and Frank Kazarian vs. Joseph Park, Chavo Guerrero, Hernandez and James Storm: There was plenty of action from all eight-men involved, but why was this an eight-man tag? It seemed like an attempt by TNA to get Park, Storm and Daniels and Kazarian in a match. Sure, they’re four of the company’s best workers, but it’s got to make sense. This didn’t. Daniels and Kazarian were smooth throughout, while Aries and Roode bickered. Park fought back against the heels and made the tag to Storm, while Roode and Aries left the match. Storm hit Kazarian with the Last Call Super Kick and Park finished him off with the second rope splash for the win.

Robbie E. w/Rob Terry vs. Rockstar Spud: E is a talented worker and is in the best shape of his life. Spud is a green rookie with charisma. Thanks to quality ring work from E, Spud looked better than he actually is. Aside from a nice Tornado DDT, Spud has a lot to learn. After some miscommunication with Terry, Spud took advantage and rolled up E for the win. After the match, the drama in Robbie World continued. Terry appears done being E’s wingman.

Knockouts Champion Tara w/Jessie Godderz vs. Brooke Yessmacher vs. Velvet Sky vs. Gail Kim: Tara was forced to sell to all three competitors. After Tara took Sky’s In Your Face finisher, Kim got the pin in the elimination match. A three-knockout tower of doom maneuver got the crowd going, but no pinfall was gained. Soon enough Sky rolled up Tessmacher to eliminate her. After another two minutes of offense and counters, Sky hit her finisher on Kim to win the title.

Samoa Joe vs. Garret Bischoff: Joe was all over Bischoff, when he was actually in the ring. Bischoff played the smart heel though, as he chopped the legs and escaped the ring when there was no advantage to be had. Just when it appeared Joe had Bischoff set for the Muscle Buster, Wes Brisco got involved and got the match thrown out. Soon enough, Kurt Angle hit the ring and made a challenge to Brisco for Lockdown.

X-Division Champion Rob Van Dam vs. Kenny King: Van Dam was in trouble for most of the match, but RVD made his signature comeback. Resilient as ever, he kicked out of everything King threw at him, even his Double Knee attack and Royal Flush finisher. After the Rolling Thunder, RVD hit the Five-Star Frog Splash for the win.

Bully Ray, Sting and Hulk Hogan vs. Devon, Doc and Mr. Anderson: Hogan didn’t come out at the start of the match, making it a three on two. For most of the contest, the gang beat the snot out of Ray in their corner. A Spear from Ray allowed Sting to get in the match and he quickly cleaned house. A Scorpion Death Drop on Doc nearly won Sting the match. Just when it appeared the good guys had the match in hand, the rest of the Aces and Eights came out with the captured Brooke Hogan and her injured father. This caused Ray to run after them. With Sting all alone, Doc hit the Big Boot for the win.
