Review Fix Exclusive: Zach Donnelly and Zak Marasti Talks Blood Cabana ‘Hell is Paradise’ EP

Review Fix chats with Blood Cabana drummer Zach Donnelly and Zak Marasti, who discuss the band’s new EP and goals for the future. Eager to reclaim the gritty roots of metal, the foursome would love to see more women become fans of their tunes and the genre.

Review Fix: What was the inspiration behind this EP?

Zach Donnelly: Fans, friends and family encouraging us. We felt motivated to put together something more solid for them and for ourselves. Fans reached out to us so we decided to give back. Life experiences.

Review Fix: How do you want this album to affect people?

DZak Marasti: We want this album to be scarred into peoples brains. We want to bring women back into the metal scene. We love the chicks.

Review Fix: What makes this band special?

Donnelly: You can make sounds on a cd or put words in an interview but when we play live something happens to us and the crowd and everyone knows it. We are proud of that feeling. Come to a Blood Cabana gig and we’ll show you. We are handsome and we take our shirts off every show.

Review Fix: What song has the best story behind it?

Marasti: The Red Door. It signifies good fortune but behind that door, depending on the way you are, there is a sign. That sign will set you free or will send you to another door that will shut your life down.

Review Fix: What’s the band’s creative process like?

Donnelly: We basically live our lives, seeing things through the eyes of a musician and a band member. The creative process never stops, We try not to lose track of ourselves as a musician. Guitar and drums usually get together and write the riffs. Bass and vox write their own bass lines and lyrics. Then, we jam.

Review Fix: How do you want this EP to be remembered?

Marasti: It is not perfect. But its young and aggressive. It is a stepping stone for a driven band.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of the year?

Donnelly: Stay safe while fighting fire for the United States Forest Service, 3 out of 4 members will be on the fire line this summer until October. This fall we plan on touring like nobodies business.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Marasti: Autism Benefit show at the San Jose Rock bar May 16th. Premiere ‘Lost Souls’ music video release May 20.
