True Blood is Back and Better Than Ever

TruebloodintertitleEpisode Commentary: ‘Nothing But the Blood’

Fans of the series, feel free to read, there are NO SPOILERS.

After waiting months for the show to come back on the air after the season one finale, the naked and blood-soaked debauchery millions know and love known as True Blood, is back for a second season.

Wasting no time getting back in the thick of things, viewers will find that Bon Temps is just as sexy and dangerous as it was before.

Some may say it’s even worse, or better, depending on how it is you get your fix.

Continuing to pick up the pieces after a near-death battle with fang hater Drew Marshall, AKA Rene Lenier, Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin [X-Men, Almost Famous] must deal with another death in her family, while her best friend,Tara Thornton, played by Rutina Wesley [How She Move, Numb3rs], must too deal with the loss of someone in her life.

This serves as the main story arc for this episode, but there is so much more jammed into this 58-minute series premiere that many fans of the series won’t be able to wait until next Sunday.

Follow ups on the stories of Bill Compton, Sam Merlotte and every one’s favorite homosexual, drug dealing, short order cook, Lafayette Reynolds are also weaved seamlessly into the episode, making it one of the best in the series so far.

The continued appearances of the ultra-sexy Maryann Forrester, played by Michelle Forbes, of Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica fame, provide more than their fare share of plot twists throughout and make us think what the future holds for her and Merlotte. The same thing goes for Thornton too, who’s life seems to be changing at a breakneck pace.

The introduction of several new characters, including the vivacious Daphne, played by Ashley Jones [The Young & the Restless] and the sultry Sarah Newlin, played by Anna Camp provide the show with more beautiful faces who can act, making True Blood even more appealing to new viewers.

However, it wouldn’t be a real episode of the show if there wasn’t some steamy sex scene or ultra-bloody rip fest.

Rest assured there is.

And one of them may have you in tears.

This ability to combine such a wide range of emotions into such a short period of time make this episode a classic in the series, but continue to cement the notion, that True Blood is quickly becoming one of the best shows on Cable right now, if it isn’t already.
