Review Fix Exclusive: Georgi Kay Talks Goals And Future

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Georgi Kay, who discusses her career in music and what 2019 holds for her.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Georgi Kay: It kind of just fell into my lap. I was in a rock band in high school with a bunch of friends. Our lead singer left so we had to choose a new singer. We played a game of pick up sticks and I ended up with the shortest stick – so I had to sing. I’d sung before, but only privately, locking myself up in my bedroom to write songs.

I honestly had no idea if I could even sing in tune or not but when I started to win awards I figured I must’ve been doing something right! The rest is history.

Review Fix: Who inspires you?

Kay: I love Bjork. She makes such eclectic and ethereal music. I love how diverse she is and how one minute she can be so pop and structured and the next so weird, free and wonderful.

No matter what music she makes or how she chooses to reveal herself to the world, she always remains genuine and true to herself.

I admire that about her the most.

Review Fix: What is Electro-Pop?

Kay: I have no idea, but Urban Dictionary says it’s “the best genre of music.”

Review Fix: How does it feel to share a stage with Peter Bjorn and John?

Kay: Amazing! I remember listening to ‘Young Folks’ in high school.  So crazy to support them on tour years later. Just goes to show you never know what the future holds.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2019?

Kay: So many things. My debut album ‘WIGTD’ is out now which I’m so proud of and excited about. I have limited edition vinyls and CDs being made as we speak!Planning to release merch, write, record and release new songs and dance collaborations, tour the US, maybe even get over to Europe to play for my fans over there too!

Review Fix: What’s next?

Kay: January 4th brings my ‘WIGTD’ debut album release party at The Peppermint Club, LA – can’t wait for that. I’ll be performing at SXSW in March too.  With some possible US shows in-between!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Kay: Yes. Write and sing dance songs. They pay your rent. Also – tea is life. That is all.
