Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter plainfacedgirl, who discusses her new single, “How Come,†in addition to breaking down her creative process and goals for the future.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
plainfacedgirl: I don’t really know. No one in my family is a musician, so it’s pretty random. But music has always been a part of my life. I was always in choir, and for some reason singing stuck with me. I had an amazing high school choir teacher who really helped me see my potential. Now music is my therapy and I can’t imagine my life without it.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
plainfacedgirl: I try to write everyday. Some days are better than others. I mostly just write until something feels good, then I run with the idea. But I also try to make sure writing doesn’t get in the way of my mental health. It needs to be a healthy balance or else I start to go crazy.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
plainfacedgirl: Equality. Human interactions. Love. Death. Pretty much anything to do with people and our purpose here on earth.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
plainfacedgirl: Like…. it’s weird and in your face, but it’s also sexy and you’re going to want to dance to it.
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
plainfacedgirl: I try to make my live shows sound as close to my studio work as possible, but I’m new to the DJ scene so I’m still learning. But the energy is there for sure. I try to keep it intimate and vulnerable, but dancey.
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
plainfacedgirl: Long story short, being a woman is hard. I mostly speak for women, but in general I think humans are sad, confused and underwhelmed. The vibe in America is just dark and scary. I think “how come?†just came out when I was feeling particularly lost.
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2019?
plainfacedgirl: I am about to go on a mini tour called the “girls like you tour†with two amazing female artists (Emilia Ali and Maria Ellis)! I also have a single and a music video coming out in early December. Other than that, I just want to spend quality time with loved ones.
Review Fix: What’s next?
plainfacedgirl: More music, more videos, more pfg. I just want to create, and do as much as I can to express myself artistically.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
plainfacedgirl: To anyone who feels run down by the way our society works, I hear you. Life is really hard. But love is surrounding you and the world has so much for you to explore. Live in the moment, and think of beautiful things as often as you can.
