Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Jamie Jean, who discusses her origin in music and new single, “I Can Dream, Can’t I?â€
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Jamie Jean: My mom was a singer and it’s just been a natural passion of mine since I was little. I couldn’t help but get involved, music has always meant so much to me. As an artist and listener.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Jean: It changes, but right now, I like finding beats or melodies to songs I like and letting it inspire me. That’s a good starting point and if the song isn’t flowing, I usually don’t push it.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Jean: Everything really, depending on my mood. But colors really inspire me in particular. I like pink a lot right now. But depending on where I am in my life, I like different colors, I think that’s interesting.
Review Fix: What does music mean to you?
Jean: So much. Just a ridiculous amount, haha. It almost concerns me how little I care about other things in comparison to music.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Jean: Probably chill, bright, vibey pop.
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Jean: I haven’t quite developed a live show for my new music, because before this single and other music to come, I played really folk-y acoustic type stuff which is a very different live experience. So that is still in the works. But I’m really excited for it.
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
Jean: I saw the phrase: “I Can Dream, Can’t I?†in the Table of Contents in a music binder my grandma had and I thought it sounded cool so I built a song around the title.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?
Jean: To hopefully finish a full length, new EP and tour. Moreso, develop myself as an artist, because this new music is different from what I used to write.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Jean: The next single! Which is called “Powerless.†I’m excited about that one.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?Â
Jean: I hope this single and music in general, be healing in a time that’s so weird for the country.
