Review Fix Exclusive: Dig Two Graves’ Jaybee Talks Goals And More

Review Fix chats with Dig Two Graves’ Jaybee, who discusses the band’s origin, goals and new single.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Jaybee: The drummer Kenny and I had been trying to start a band since elementary school. Then in my first, and only year of college, I met Mike in class, and we found Jesse on Instagram and the rest is history. The basic goal was to merge really pretty classical piano/ambient stuff, and heavy music, and it just evolved from there.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Jaybee: I write every song. I write the guitar, background elements like piano and violin, and I put down very simple MIDI drums and bass. From there, I send it to everyone, and they write their stuff around it. Then we get together, practice it a few times, and see if we want to change anything from there.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Jaybee: I guess that would be So Below. It’s probably our most ambitious song yet. It took me a couple years to write. It’s pretty long and it has a lot of elements in it, I’m super happy with how it turned out. We also had our good friend Michi sing on the outro, and she did a really great job.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?

Jaybee: Right now, just make it through the quarantine. But, we’re hoping to drop our first album by the end of 2020, and also we’d like to play a few shows, corona-permitting.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Jaybee: I just want people to have fun with it. I don’t really care how it affects anyone otherwise, that’s up to them.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Jaybee: Keep an eye out for our debut album coming out later this year, and hopefully we’ll see everyone at a show soon!
