As the smell of chocolate manages to make its way outside from “The Chocolate Room,†located on 86 Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn, it’s obvious.
You know you’re in for a special experience.
Sitting in the middle of an area finishing up a demographic shift that is quickly becoming a trendy epicenter for new businesses, “The Chocolate Room,†which has been in business for a few years now, fits right in with a soft-lighted dessert palace that is sure to hook anyone looking for something different.
Billed as a dessert cafe, “The Chocolate Room†is so much more, offering a wide selection of flavored coffees, hot chocolates, confections, cakes, chocolate-flavored beer from the Brooklyn Brewery such Black Chocolate Stout, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, Rogue Chocolate Stout and wine, making it a destination for those looking to relax with a drink as well.
However, it is the dessert menu that make the cute spot a winner.
Everything from warm and elegant brownie sundaes with your choice of ice cream to their signature and equally delectable Chocolate Room pudding [made with semi-sweet chocolate that has a mousse-like texture and is silky smooth on the palette] are made within minutes. Most of the dishes can be paired with a glass of wine as well, such as the Black Bottom Butterscotch Custard, which is paired with Madeira for an irresistible one-two combo.
In addition, many of the dishes are sized for two, such as the Chocolate Fondue, which is made with 60% Belgian chocolate, fresh fruit, pound cake and homemade marshmallows, helping to make “The Chocolate Room†an ideal spot for couple or friends looking to get their munch on.
Helping to create an excellent, but fun atmosphere is the decor, which consists of flowers on every table and a beautiful white ceiling that looks like something out of an old art gallery. Ambiance like this isn’t necessarily needed when the food is this good, but it does make the place even more enticing.
The same thing goes for the warm service by the staff, who are usually garbed in shirts that say things like “Got Chocolate?†This kind of fun-loving attitude, combined with great atmosphere and tasty food make “The Chocolate Room†a place where every couple or addicted sweet-tooth consumer owes it to themselves to visit at least once.
Chances are though, that once won’t be enough.
Open from 12 pm to 11 on Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday and 12-12 on Friday and Saturday, it’s quite possible that they’ll have a place for you whenever you feel the need to quench your sweet tooth.
Fiscally speaking, “The Chocolate Room,†will run you as much as dessert at a restaurant like “Outback’s†or “Applebee’s,†but will have that special touch and taste that make it more than worth it.
So rather than spend 15-20 dollars on dessert at what ever restaurant you had dinner at, try out “The Chocolate Room.â€
