Pleasure Before the Cup

With the world cup around the corner, what a better way to kick off the world’s most famous sport in style than with a nice game of FIFA 10?

Ask any soccer player, and they’ll tell ya: there’s nothing better than kicking a ball as hard as you can, or bouncing it of your head for that matter.

This year around, those sentiments have been translated marvelously to the PS3.

As a result, FIFA 10 for the PS3 is nothing but fun and is everything you would want in a soccer game.

The control features on the game are extremely smooth. The passing is swift and the ball control is exquisite. While the ball is at your feet, you have the options to make some fascinating moves, similar to the great Maradona or even Ronaldinho. Similar to basketball you definitely can break the ankles of your opponent by doing some swift foot work while controlling the ball. While having the ball possession you can fake your opponents out with spins, neat foot work, or even smart passes. Overall it is a fun experience of setting up your teammate or scoring a goal in tremendous fashion.

As deep as the controls are, the gameplay depth is equally as compelling. At first, during regular season play, you pick a team and play a regular season in which you have the chance to win a few cups and the regular season championship of the country that you represent. As the season ends, depending on how your team is ranked, you have the chance to compete for the champions league, or the super bowl of soccer for that matter, making game play that much more exciting.

The graphics continue to improve showing wonderful features that resemble the players. However, the changes to the presentation and gameplay make things even more realistic. For example, a new feature added to the game is the revamped penalty kick. After you are fouled, you can quickly go in motion and either take the shot or pass it immediately giving the game that pure authentic look and style.

FIFA 10 is a great soccer experience in terms of single, and multiplayer. Online play is not bad either. Playing against other gamers easily makes the game challenging and more fun as you work extremely hard to try to score and win.

Another exciting aspect of FIFA 10 is that it is fan friendly. You and your buddies could gather up pick your favorite team or country and create a friendly tournament to prove who the best player in the FIFA world really is.

The only down side to this game, which can be said for the previous FIFA games, is the commentary.  Although you can change the language setting from English to either Spanish or Italian etc, you have to pay for that option. The repetitiveness of the commentary can get quite annoying as well. For instance, no matter what type of moves you do or during any point of the game the announcers will always tend to repeat their dialogue and it will have nothing to do with what you are doing at that time during the game.

Other than that, there is nothing really bad to say about FIFA 10.

Simply put, if you enjoy soccer, then this is the game for you. With the World Cup coming up, this game is the perfect warm up that will keep you busy before the big tournament.  Get ready.

At the site, I'm a music, television and graphic novel kind of guy and that's what I'll be writing for the most part. Expect some book and music reviews as well though [insert demon horns here]. I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
