DC Infinite Crisis First Crisis First Thoughts

DC finally offers its fans the opportunity to combat as their favorite heroes and villains on a battlefield with Infinite Crisis. The Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, or MOBA, puts players in a 5 vs. 5 fight to go on a rampage as the hero or villain of their choice. While it is still in the early beta stages, Infinite Crisis shows great potential to compete with similar games such League of Legends and DOTA and will easily put fanboys and fangirls alike in a fit of joy as they step into the role of their favorite character and put the hurt on.

Due to the early stages of development the character selection is still quite limited, but the uniqueness of each design is an excellent distraction from that. The creators did not focus solely on the Prime universe of heroes and villains that most fans are familiar with, but instead stepped into some darker realms to give a twist to certain individuals.

One of the choices available as Nightmare Batman, a darker version of Bruce Wayne who succumbed to vampirism in his hunt for Dracula eventually turning into a monster himself. There are several other designs that will not only keep players intrigued in the game, but also have comic fans searching through comics to find out more about the unusual universes.

The characters have a few phrases they cycle throughout combat, even using the names of other heroes/villains in the arena giving them a bit of personality. They sound a bit cheesy at moments, but heroes have almost always sounded that way so it gives some authenticity to their personality.

The play itself seems that of any other MOBA. The hero/villain the player selects levels throughout the matches, upgrading skills, earning money and purchasing items to make themselves more effective in combat. The graphics are not incredibly detailed either, but that is a gift as well as a curse. This means that even though the game may not appear magnificent, it allows many players the chance to enjoy the game without having to worry about performance issues.

The developers have offered a gift to the fans as well. For those who do not wish to wait for an early access beta key, there are 3 version players can purchase to gain early access as well as characters and in game currency. The lowest price is at $19.99, not bad figuring that players are gifted 3 characters, a special icon, and 800 coins of in game currency to spend on heroes, special costumes, powers, or a variety of features.

It may be another MOBA clone, but comic book nerds will rejoice at the opportunity to rampage through the streets of Gotham as Doomsday.
