There’s almost no question that we’re headed toward a future where AAA games are a minority. Looking at the present state of current generation consoles, where expensive, higher quality experiences are scarce while indie titles continue to flood their digital markets, it’s not surprising to see a few larger studios using smaller teams on projects. As is the case with Child of Light, a two-dimensional role-playing game made by a small branch at Ubisoft Montreal.
Child of Light is a brilliant example of why this inevitable future is a good thing. It’s an incredibly unique experience, one that did not require a giant team of developers, packed with a charming tale, interesting characters with diverse skills and a fun, active time, turn-based combat system, all accommodated by the UbiArt Framework engine that creates this beautiful, unparalleled universe.
