Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘Combo Quest 2’

Review Fix chats with Ilya Nikolayev, CEO, Tapinator to find out what makes the developer’s newest iOS game, “Combo Quest 2” an awesome one.

About the Game:

In Combo Quest 2, players must face hordes of enemies and bosses across 90 challenging levels using the game’s signature time-tap combat system. Battles are fought by tapping the device at the exact moment a slider passes over different colored blocks. The bigger the combo, the faster the slider moves — increasing the chances of failure. If players manage to execute a big enough combo, they will unleash an ultimate move that deals MASSIVE damage. (Think special attacks in the beat ‘em up classic Golden Axe.)

Review Fix: For those that missed the first game in the series, why was it a special one?

Ilya Nikolayev: Combo Quest pioneered the time-tap mechanic on mobile. The game was featured five times by Apple and received over 1 million downloads, with a 4.5 star review score.

Review Fix: What did you learn from the first game and how did it make number two better?

Nikolayev: We learned that players wanted the ability to improve their characters (including stats), reach new locations, and unlock new heroes. We have brought all of these features, and more, to Combo Quest 2!

Review Fix: What was development like overall?

Nikolayev: The game required significantly longer development time than CQ1 due to the deeper experience. Overall, it has taken us about seven months to bring Combo Quest 2 to App Store players.

Review Fix: How do you want Combo Quest 2 to be remembered?

Nikolayev: We want CQ2 to be remembered as a game that takes the unique mechanics of its predecessor and layers features that will keep the game interesting, innovative, and engaging for years to come.

Review Fix: What types of players will enjoy Combo Quest 2?

Nikolayev: RPG players, twitch players, and mobile players in general.

Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone play Combo Quest 2?

Nikolayev: Unique gameplay: Many titles have tried to replicate Combo Quest’s mechanics, but none have succeeded.

Review Fix: What’s next for the Combo Quest series and Tapinator?

Nikolayev: We are focused on listening to user feedback, analyzing metrics, and releasing a 1.1 update to Combo Quest 2 based on what our fans are telling us. In the meantime, players love the game — which is a good spot to be in.
