The final matches of the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and the NXT debut of legend Mickie James made for a decent episode of NXT that made up for a few squash matches that did little to add any flavor to the show.
Matches:
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: DIY: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. Tian Bing and Hoho Lun: Lun and Bing hit some strikes and weren’t squashed, but Gargano and Ciampa won with their “Meet in the Middle†Knee/Super Kick combination.
Aliyah vs. Billie Kay w/Peyton Royce: Aliyah had her best match to date in NXT, hitting several new maneuvers and getting the win via Rollup after Liv Morgan distracted Kay. After the match however, Royce and Kay cleaned house.
Tye Dillinger vs. Noah Potjes: Dillinger got the win with the Tye-Breaker, but Bobby Roode beat on him after the match, hitting the Implant DDT on the ramp.
Thea Trinidad vs. NXT Women’s Champion Asuka: Trinidad didn’t lay down, but Asuka dominated and won with the German Suplex and a Fujiwara Armbar.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: Kota Ibushi and WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins vs. Mustafa Ali and Lince Dorado: Lots of spots and near finishes, but Perkins got the win with the Knee Bar on Mustafa.
