NXT Coverage: Tag-Teamed

Four matches in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic dominated this week’s episode of NXT. Without Asuka, Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura, there was little star power, but the in-ring action was stellar.

Matches:

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: TM61: Nick Miller and Shane Thorne vs. Roderick Strong and Austin Aries: After Aries announced he could not fight, NXT General Manager William Regal announced that Roderick Strong would face off against Shane Thorne instead, with the winner advancing in the tournament.

Roderick Strong w/Austin Aries vs. Shane Thorne w/Nick Miller: This was a wild match that saw Strong dominate with a variety of strikes and Backbreakers, but the agile and wild Thorne got the win with a Rollup (thanks to his taking advantage of Strong’s need to pay more attention to Aries), after a modified Falcon Arrow, Sit-out Powerbomb.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: DIY: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival: Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson: Due to Dawson’s injury, The Revival was forced to forfeit the match and eliminate themselves from the tournament.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: No Way Jose and Rich Swann vs. The Authors of Pain w/Paul Ellering: Plenty of spots as Jose took to the top rope and nearly won with a TKO. But once TAOP took out Swann on the outside, Akum and Razar hit The Last Chapter for the win.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: TJ Perkins and Kota Ibushi vs. Sanity: Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton w/Eric Young and Nikki Cross: Ibushi and Perkins hit a ton of high-flying spots but Sanity utilized quick tags and power maneuvers to keep the advantage. Ibushi hit the Golden Star Powerbomb but Young and Cross distracted the referee, allowing Wolfe and Fulton to hit the Powerslam/Reverse DDT for the win.
