NXT Coverage: NXT Goes Japanese For 2016 Finale

Ending 2016 with a house show? Well, what about a good one? Either way, 2016 was a great year for NXT as the WWE’s developmental brand continues to prove it’s more entertaining than RAW and Smackdown at times.

Matches:

Oney Lorcan vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas: A solid opener with plenty of offense, but a shocking finish as Lorcan defeated Almas with a Reverse Exploder Suplex from the top rope.

Liv Morgan and Aliyah vs. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay: A decent match with good tag work that saw Royce get the pin-fall on Morgan with the One-Handed Face Buster.

NXT Tag Team Champions DIY: Johnny Gargano and Tomaso Ciampa vs. Tajiri and Akira Tozawa: The best match of the night up until that point as Tozawa and Tajiri laid down the kicks and offense on DIY, but thanks to excellent teamwork and their Superkick/Knee Strike on Tozawa, they retained their titles.

Nia Jax vs. NXT Women’s Champion Asuka: Jax pushed Asuka to a limit we haven’t seen yet and nearly won on several occasions, but Asuka got the win with the Buzzsaw Kick and surprised the world with a beautiful German Suplex at one point.

NXT Champion Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: Joe was in control throughout but he couldn’t put Nakamura away. Fighting through all of Joe’s offense, Nakamura hit the Kinshasa out of nowhere for the win.
