Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have confirmed their trilogy bout to take place on July 10th, 2021 for the UFC 264. The fight will take place at Vegas, in the T-Mobile Arena, within Nevada state. With the confirmation of the fight, odds makers are going wild at the odds and it has certainly got more than one person talking in between themselves.
All the latest updates for the Conor McGregor odds will continuously be reviewed and provided for those that wish to ensure that they keep up with the latest regarding the fight. While we are yet to approach fight day, we know that the media has a lot of power over changing the odds, especially when it comes to the wellbeing of each athlete individually.
The first fight between the two, was where McGregor managed to take the featherweight title back in 2014, via a TKO. It was actually a very solid performance for Conor and one of the best he’s ever given, form-wise to date. The Irishman also went on to take the lightweight championship too, making it a huge highlight for his career at that point. Later on of course, we saw the two fight it out again at UFC 257, and things could not have been more different. Poirier came back stronger than ever and really studied his opponent, to give him a second round TKO win.
After the fight, they both confirmed how they would like to make their fighting relationship a trilogy, to see who can take it beyond the 1-1 status. Poirier had even turned down the opportunity to take the lightweight title, for the sake of fighting the Irishman again, meaning the heat and drama very certainly took it up a notch from there on then. Now, with the fight very official and in bold writing, sportsbooks all over the internet have made the odds official and will consistently update it up until the day of 10th July 2021.
In April, the odds stood at -110 for both fighters, but of course as the time comes closer, there always becomes a more clearer understanding of who is believed to be the favourite. It stands at equal odds because both share a win, making it difficult to say as of yet, who has a closer chance of taking the win for themselves.
How did the fight get confirmed?
It actually got confirmed just minutes after the second fight ended, as both fighters, with their compassionate and competitive spirit, knew that neither would truly be the champion over one another, if another fight was not initiated. Dana White did however say how the fight was nearly called off during the first few weeks after its announcement, but as of now it is very much on and good to go.
McGregor did swallow his pride and admit his training had been affected due to his arrogance before UFC 257, but what is interesting to all is the fact that McGregor had said prior to the fight, that he will donate $500,000 to a charity attached to Poirier’s name. He never did actually pay up, as confirmed by Dustin himself. Since then this caused an uproar within social media, and really swerved the opinion round on the integrity and honour of the Irishman.
Uproar has further commenced in April when McGregor did pull out of the fight, when Dustin made the news on the charity money public. Many judged immediately calling it hurt ego, but Conor immediately released a statement on Twitter, calling Poirier a multiple of names, and said how he’s very clearly new to money. So, while we thought the two could finally get along after the first UFC 257, it is very clearly not the case. Defending himself, Conor did say that the administration behind the donation was never chased up, hence why he never paid up.
Once the dust and commotion had settled, Conor agreed to fight once again, with Conor quoting being back up to his old arrogant tricks, of why he signed the new agreement drafted last month. While we all know this will be an amazing finalisation to the heat between the two, one may question how the odds may actually change. Now, they stand at -130 to McGregor as the favourite and +115 for Poirier. But as well know, it is only when the fight commences in the ring, that is where the favourite truly sparks and shows what they are made of. Our bet is on Poirier all the way.
